Explorers’ Club: Split Rock

Near the border of New York and New Jersey, at the summit of Split Rock Mountain, is a large glacial erratic.  This Split Rock is sacred to the Ramapough Munsee Lenape Indians. Join Gary Link and other members of the Explorers’ Club on Thursday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. for a guided tour of this Native American spiritual site.  We’ll meet our guide, Steven D. Smith at the Ramapough Lenape Community Center, 189 Stag Hill Road, Mahwah, and then hike approximately ½ mile to Split Rock.  After touring the site, those wishing to visit the Ramapough Nation Ceremonial Lands located at 95 Halifax Road, Mahwah, are invited to caravan to the ceremonial grounds. Wear footwear appropriate for walking on uneven terrain and bring water and a snack/lunch. The Explorers’ Club is sponsored by the Friends and the Board of Library Trustees.
